  First Grade Newsletter
June 13th-June 17th

Literacy
This week students will complete a Memory Book about all of their favorite subjects, memories, and people during their time in first grade.

Science
Last week students shared that they would like to learn about thunder and lightning. This week our class will take a look at how thunder and lightning is made and the reason we have thunder and/or lightning storms.

 
 
Social Studies
American Symbols
This week students will continue to deepen their knowledge about American Symbols through a mini unit.

Writing Workshop


First Grade Memory Book
Students will have the entire week to reflect on their time in first grade. They will be writing down memories that happened to them during different parts of the day as well as their favorite parts of first grade.



                  
Parent Reminders
1.  Field Day is on Wednesday, June 15th. Please have your child bring an extra change of clothes (there will be water stations where students will get wet). 
 2.   No before school help.
 3. Please be sure your child returns their green school-to-home folder and their homework folder to school everyday.  Also, please check your child's school-to-home folder each day for important handouts. I will write about specific handouts that you should be looking for throughout the week in this section of the newsletter. Students should also have their red homework folders in their backpacks every day.
4.    Children should bring in a small healthy snack (separate from their lunch) to have in class at 9:50 a.m. Please make sure that it is nut-free and has no glass products.
5.  Homework Update- There will ONLY be a homework log this week. Please continue to read and discuss stories with your child as well as work on addition and subtraction fact fluency throughout this week and the summer. 
6. On Thursday, students will be bringing home finished work, writing samples, Science journals, and anything else they have completed in first grade. All papers, journals, and folders stay at home.
7. SPIRIT WEEK: 
Monday: Crazy Hair/Hat Day
Tuesday: Flag Day (Wear Red, White, and Blue)
Wednesday: Field Day! (Class T-Shirts will be given to students on the morning of)
Thursday: Sports Day
Friday: School Spirit Day (Wear green & white or a West Parish t-shirt)
